If you have visited our glass studio in Riihimäki during the past year, you have most likely met with Väinö. This young talent was first doing his internship with us and later on joined the team as a glassblower. Next, we’ll have an exhibition by Väinö at our gallery in Helsinki!

Väinö Terho is a 23-year-old newly graduated glassblower artisan. His debut exhibition Unelmasta todeksi – A dream come true will show you the road of a young glassblower from school to the present day of working in a glass studio and organizing the very first solo exhibition.

The exhibition theme presents how working towards your dreams and goals includes uncertainty and obstacles that you have to overcome to succeed.

Join us for the exhibition opening celebrations on Thursday the 11th of October at 18 o’clock!
We kindly ask you to sign up in advance by email: ammi@mafka-alakoski.fi

Väinö Terho lasitaidenäyttely Unelmasta todeksi, Galleria Mafka&Alakoski

Glassblower Väinö Terho has wanted to challenge himself by using demanding techniques, for example, filigree and steam stick techniques for his new artwork. The artwork shows the playfulness and versatility of this young craft maker. Terho’s art pieces bring out the beautiful shine of a clear glass and visualize how colors can be used to express emotions inside the glass.

It is rare for a glassblower to be hired into a small glass studio since often the companies in this field are able to provide work possibilities only for the company owners. The employment of a new young glassblower is important. This way the cultural heritage of glassblowing can be passed from the professional to the next and the skill would not be lost in Finland.
